Timmermans: 300 years of lambic, a website worth visiting.

WebNest designed and developed the new website for Brouwerij Timmermans and its Lambicus Experience Center. An art direction inspired by the labels, a multilingual Odoo website and a journey that takes visitors from the story to the booking.

The client

Brouwerij Timmermans is the oldest lambic brewery still operating in the world. Founded in 1702 in Itterbeek, in the heart of the Pajottenland, it still brews by spontaneous fermentation.

Its buildings, vats and 1934 coolship are listed as Belgian industrial heritage. With the Lambicus Experience Center, the brewery opens its doors to the public: guided tours, workshops, a bar and events.

The challenge

The starting point.

Timmermans had everything it needed to tell a great story: three centuries of expertise, listed heritage, a place people can visit. What it lacked was a website to match.

The challenge came down to two things. First, the art direction: how do you become instantly recognisable without putting the logo everywhere? Then the structure: bringing the brewery, the visitor experience, the bar, events and venue hire together on one website, in seven languages, without visitors getting lost.

Key objectives
Establish an art direction that stands out from all others
Guide visitors from the story to booking a tour
Bring the brewery, bar, events and venue hire together on one website
Make every section reusable and editable without a developer
The solution

Our approach.

UX / Design

The art direction starts from the labels. Each section takes on the colour of a beer: the yellow of the Oude Gueuze, the pink of the Kriek, the blue of the Blanche Lambicus. Scrolling down the page, visitors move through the whole range. The brand is recognisable by its colours, with no need for a logo on every block.

White remains dominant, so the colours act as breathing space rather than a constant wash. Photography takes precedence over text: the foeders, the coolship, the brewhouse. Rounded arches echo the shape of the foeders and the building's vaults, and recur on images as well as buttons.

Just two typefaces: a very condensed display face for headings and a serif italic for accents. The same contrast as on the labels.

Technical

The website is built on Odoo using native snippets. Each section carries its own CSS: it can be saved as a reusable block and placed as is on another page, with no dependency on a global stylesheet.

Vertical rhythm, side gutter and fonts are all controlled from a single block of code. This guarantees consistency across every page, while the Odoo editor keeps control section by section whenever an exception is needed.

The website is multilingual and sits alongside the group's other websites in the same Odoo database, without a change on one affecting the others.

Custom-built

An age verification pop-up greets visitors and can be switched on or off with a simple boolean setting.

Four mega menus organise the navigation: the beers, the Lambic Experience, the bar and events, with a direct link to the group's online shop.

The Menu page contains the bar's full menu, translated and laid out: draught beers, lambics from the foeders, bottles to share and a lunch menu. Tours, workshops and venue hire all lead to the ticketing. A looping video opens the homepage, and a second one documents the brewing process.

The project in brief

What WebNest delivered.

Timmermans now has a website that looks like its beers: colourful, lively and inviting people to come in.

The brewery's story, the bar menu, the tour packages and the ticketing all sit on the same website, in seven languages. And because every section is a reusable block, the team updates its pages itself, without coming back to us for a change in opening hours or a new beer.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Why did Timmermans call on a web agency specialising in Odoo?
Three centuries of expertise, listed heritage, a place people can visit, and no website to match. Two difficulties: being instantly recognisable without putting the logo everywhere, and bringing together the brewery, tours, the bar, events and venue hire.
What was custom-built for Timmermans?
An art direction drawn from the labels: each section takes on the colour of a beer, and visitors move through the range as they scroll down. Technically, each section carries its own CSS and can be saved as a reusable block, then placed as is on another page.
Can Timmermans update its website without us?
Yes, and that's the main strength of this build: the team can reuse an existing block on a new page without relying on a global stylesheet. The age verification pop-up is switched on or off with a simple boolean setting.
Can another brewery in Dilbeek have the same kind of website?
Yes. A business that brews, welcomes visitors and hires out its spaces, in several languages, is exactly what this website covers (seven languages here). The reusable sections mean you don't pay for development again with every new page.
